Hedgerow Heros Workshop
Today we had our first visit from Emma from Keep N.I. Tidy.
Emma led a workshop on the importance of hedgerows for habitat, biodiversity, soil conservation, carbon capture and prevention of pollution.
She explained the difference between native and non-native plants and what we should be looking for in a hedgerow. She highlighted varieties of native hedging and how to identify them, including Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Oak, Hazel and other species. We finished our afternoon by showing Emma our extensive school grounds and identifying the existing plant life. She was very impressed with the pupils' knowledge!
Emma also had the opportunity to make suggestions as to where we might plant our new hedge.
Our thanks go to Emma and Keep N.I. Tidy for today's workshop. We can't wait for the second workshop!
