Magic Mathematics
Today Primary 5-7 joined an online session with Zoe, a mathematician, who wanted to talk to us about her favourite thing - SHAPES!
The first problem Zoe set us was to find a way to turn our hands from facing upward to downward without turning our wrists. This involved a lot of right angled moves ....
Zoe introduced us to a new shape - a mobius loop, and some of its interesting properties. She also asked us to cut out a rectangle we'd drawn on paper, using the least number of straight paper cuts. Some clever boys and girls managed to do it using symmetry, with 2 cuts - Zoe showed us how she could do it with one cut!
Who knew shapes could be so amazing!!
