The Beast of Knobbly Bottom
Today some pupils from KS2 took part in an online event with author Emily-Jane Clarke. Emily-Jane talked about her new book, "The Beast of Knobbly Bottom", a laugh out loud adventure story. A little girl moves from the city to the countryside because "it's safer and better for children". She hates it. She and her new friend Fred have an exciting adventure trying to defeat the vampire sheep who are trying to take over the village!
Emily-Jane explained she writes funny books because she thinks it's good for people to smile and laugh when reading. Her aim is to help children enjoy books and have a good laugh!
She explained how she chose the setting for the story. She tried out several names but thought that "Knobbly Bottom" gave the best opportunity to laugh and provide lots of jokes too. She thinks that the funniest part of the story is when the children put their plan to defeat the beasts into action, with unexpected results.
She also gave the children some tips on being a writer of funny stories. Firstly she suggested they read lots and WATCH LOTS OF FUNNY SHOWS AND CARTOONS ON TV!
Emily-Jane said the idea for the story came from her own life when she moved from the city to the countryside and hated it!
She told the children to keep a journal and write down funny things that happen and how they feel. Later in life yoiu might have an idea for a story reading it.
She encourages children to let their imagination go crazy ... What if?... She spent a lot of time daydreaming as a child.
Everyone enjoyed hearing her talk about the book they are reading and can't wait for her next book "Rise of the Zombie Pigs".
